The experience
Best for travelers who prefer scenery and wildlife to archaeological sites. This private week starts in Kandy, crosses the tea country and Ella, then focuses on wild elephants in Udawalawe before finishing along the south coast.
Day by day
Day 1
Travel into the hills and visit Kandy Lake and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Day 2
Explore the Royal Botanical Gardens, then continue through tea estates. Visit a tea factory before arriving in Nuwara Eliya and Gregory Lake.
Day 3
Travel through the highlands to Ella. Hike Little Adam's Peak and enjoy the laid-back mountain town.
Day 4
Visit Nine Arch Bridge and Ravana Falls, then descend towards Udawalawe. If timing suits, visit the Elephant Transit Home to learn about the rehabilitation of orphaned elephants.
Day 5
Take an early jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park, one of the island's strongest destinations for observing wild elephants in open landscapes. Continue to Mirissa.
Day 6
Enjoy the coast, then explore Galle Fort and its lighthouse, ramparts and colonial streets before reaching Bentota.
Day 7
Enjoy a free morning and your private departure transfer.
